If you live, work or study in Canada but are not a permanent resident you will need a visa. The U.S. government decrees that in order to gain entry into the United States, all landed immigrants in Canada must hold an up-to-date passport and a non-immigrant visa before they cross the Canadian – U.S. border. This includes citizens from countries within the British Commonwealth but does not affect those citizens from countries belonging to the Visa Waiver Program.
